Remembering Phyllis L. Mable, 1934-2012, 'The Whole Student — Head, Heart, Mind, Spirit'

from ACPA

Phyllis L. Mable was an exemplary leader, educator, colleague and friend throughout her active involvement with ACPA and her tireless contributions to higher education that spanned more than 50 years. Phyllis, 78, died May 9. As a former ACPA president and one of the founders of the Council for Advancement of Standards in Higher Education, she dedicated her lifelong work to student development, created pathways for success for countless educators, and advocated for standards in learning outcomes. Upon her 2001 retirement as the vice president of student affairs at Longwood University in Virginia, she refocused her energy on learning and development outcomes in the standards as executive director of CAS. Phyllis deeply cherished her personal relationships with colleagues and friends, many of whom were former students. She always showed appreciation through personalized, thoughtful handwritten notes to all who shared a meal with her. Phyllis' legacy will indefinitely live on through her friends, colleagues and students. more
