State hiring cut-rate temporary workers

State officials say they've hit on a way to save $60 million over the next five years by reducing the pay of a legion of temporary workers who supplement the state work force. Under a series of new contracts arranged by the Office of General Services, temp service employees will see their wages fall as much as 42 percent.
