Fear of loan debt grows for dentists, physicians
from The Columbus Dispatch
Part of Patrick Lloyd's job as dean of Ohio State University's College of Dentistry includes helping future dentists overcome their fear of debt. Because when they graduate, they will owe an average of $195,000 in student loans. They will owe more than Ohio State's medical-school graduates. In fact, they will owe more than anyone else graduating from the state’s flagship university. "Our graduates are having debt loads for a long time," Lloyd said. "Our student-debt level concerns me." With debts so massive, any financial missteps or career miscalculations can have significant, lifelong consequences.
