Sinton ISD hires armed security guards, plans for increased safety measures
from Corpus Christi Caller-Times
The December shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., spurred Sinton ISD Superintendent Steve VanMatre and his staff into action. Sinton ISD officials hired armed security guards, closed off the high school and middle school tracks during instructional hours and discussed revamping their camera systems as well as installing fingerprinting devices on district buses. "Newtown was such a game-changer for me," VanMatre said. "And it was such a tragedy that we've redoubled our efforts." He said he can't look parents in the eye and guarantee students' safety. "But I can guarantee them that we are doing everything we can do to increase that percentage," he said.
