Bus mileage restriction costly for Tennessee schools
from The Tullahoma News
Coffee County Schools transportation director Tim Morris appeared at a recent Budget and Finance Committee meeting to request $300,000 for new buses this year due to what he says is "overly strict" age and mileage limitations imposed by the Tennessee state legislature. "Here in Tennessee, the maximum age for a school bus is 17 years, and after that it has to be retired," said Morris. "On top of that, once a bus reaches 15 years of age, it cannot exceed 200,000 miles, or else it also has to be retired."
