Flood damage assessments begin

With residents in 48 Illinois counties hit by extensive flood damage, officials asked victims to be patient, keep their receipts and open their doors to assessors trying to determine eligibility for federal flood assistance. The Federal Emergency Management Agency, assisted by its state counterpart and other agencies, began making preliminary damage assessments on homes and businesses in Cook, DuPage and Lake counties. The process could lead to federal grants and low-interest loans for owners of property damaged by the flood. more
