Dr. Rocco Casagrande's IAEM Annual Conference presentation will explore technologies that will change the world this century and implications for security

Dr. Rocco Casagrande will be a featured plenary speaker at the IAEM 61st Annual Conference & EMEX, set for Oct. 25-30, 2013, in Reno, Nev. His presentation, "Technologies that Will Change the World this Century: Implications for Security," will explore a methodology for understanding how emerging technologies may affect the future. To illustrate the process, he will focus on the role that advancing biotechnology, and specifically the discipline of synthetic biology affects the security environment. The talk will culminate on five emerging technologies that may significantly influence the security environment over the next 50 years. Dr. Casagrande is the managing director of Gryphon Scientific, LLC where his focus is bringing rigorous scientific analysis to problems of homeland defense. He has led several projects related to weapons of mass destruction and science policy including WMD threat and risk assessments and biodefense system evaluations for the Department of Homeland Security; technology assessment for the FBI and Multistate Partnership for Security in Agriculture; modeling for the Department of Health and Human Services and technical guidance for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, and non-profit research institutes. From December 2002 to March 2003, as the chief of the UN biological analysis laboratory, Dr. Casagrande served as an UNMOVIC biological weapons inspector in Iraq where he obtained hands-on experience with chemical and biological agents.
