FEMA issues Intergovernmental Affairs Advisory on Public Assistance Program Alternative Procedures for Debris Removal
On June 3, FEMA issued an advisory regarding debris removal. On Jan. 29, 2013, President Obama signed into law the Sandy Recovery Improvement Act of 2013 (SRIA) that authorized FEMA to make significant changes to the Public Assistance program. During this hurricane season, FEMA will be implementing a pilot program similar to one being used in Oklahoma response to the May 20, 2013 tornadoes. This pilot will provide for debris removal that offers communities financial incentives for the timely removal of debris and for having a pre-incident debris management plan. FEMA is implementing the provisions of the law as a pilot program and will gather data during the pilot to inform the development of a future proposed rulemaking. You can

for the Oklahoma Tornado pilot program. More information is
on the implementation of SRIA and the Public Assistance program.
