FDA begins regulating tobacco products
from The New York Times
The Food and Drug Administration announced that it had begun exercising the authority to regulate tobacco products that it was given under a 2009 law supported by President Barack Obama. The agency authorized the sale of two new tobacco products — both types of Newport cigarettes made by the Lorillard Tobacco Company — and rejected approval for four others.
