California wins appeal for Rim Fire disaster funds
from The Washington Post
President Barack Obama approved an appeal from California Gov. Jerry Brown for disaster assistance after a major blaze caused more than $50 million in damage near Yosemite National Park this summer. The move partially reverses a Federal Emergency Management Agency decision to deny federal disaster relief funds related to the Rim Fire, which burned 257,000 acres of land this summer. The agency said the fire, which caused $54 million in damage, wasn't severe enough to justify aid.
