Significant innovation is already occurring across all customer classes. Smart devices are now commonplace in many residences and businesses. It is relatively safe to assume that by 2030 every device connected to the grid could be capable of 1) communicating to the grid operator and 2) receiving a control signal. Many of those devices will be purchased by consumers from retailers. They will expect them to "plug and play" with grid operations.
