District to work on English language learners mandate
from The Milford Dailey News
A new state mandate on English as a second language drew criticism from a member of the Mendon-Upton School Committee. District Superintendent Joseph Maruszczak told the committee about the state's Rethinking Equity and Teaching of English Language Learners initiative, aimed at improving education for students for whom English is a second language. He said the federal government, in 2011, ruled that the state was violating the civil rights of these students by not requiring teachers to get professional development in that area.
