Education Department: 45 percent of New York City 8th graders got into top high school choice
from New York Daily News
The city's Department of Education said 84 percent of the 77,043 students who applied for public high schools made it into one of their top five choices, as eighth-graders around the city celebrated — or lamented — upon learning which institution they would attend in the fall. But just 5 percent of the students admitted to specialized public high schools this year are black; only 7 percent are Hispanic.
