FDA panel favors device to boost lung transplant success

An FDA advisory committee gave a unanimous thumbs up to a device to improve the quality of donor lungs using warm perfusion after explant. The agency's Gastroenterology and Urology Devices Panel voted 10-0 in each of three separate votes that there was reasonable assurance that XVIVO XPS perfusion system is safe, that it offers "probable benefit," and that those benefits would outweigh the risks of the device.
