Class teaches more than language

It was early — 7:20 a.m. — in the classroom at Danbury High School, but the 25 students seated in rows before their ESL teacher were ready. The vocabulary words on the blackboard ranged from ask and answer to brothers and sisters. Teacher Jeannie Kahn held up a group of colorful flash cards and asked the students, including a sister and brother who had arrived from Ecuador four days earlier, to describe what they saw.
