Microsoft ceased user support and security updates for its hugely popular XP operating system beginning March 8, leaving those who are still using the system vulnerable to hacker attacks and data loss. Despite warnings, 36 percent of XP users plan to keep at least one of their devices running on XP. For small businesses with limited IT resources, the percentage is even higher. But not updating is simply not an option. Small businesses need to install a newer operating system like Windows 7, 8.1, or swap over their systems entirely to a Microsoft competitor like Apple or Google.
