Using motivational interviewing for tobacco cessation training
from KU School of Medicine
Although rates of tobacco use have generally decreased, the negative health effects of tobacco continue to grow. Healthcare providers are on the front lines for tobacco cessation and for reversing the related health disparities in vulnerable populations.
During the training, an evidence-based approach will be presented using case studies where participants will develop skills in assessing the patient’s stage of change using motivational interviewing techniques during time-limited encounters.
