Self-publishing boom lifts sales by 79 percent in a year in UK

Self-published books' share of the U.K. market grew by 79 percent in 2013, with 18 million self-published books bought by U.K. readers last year, according to new statistics. With print sales falling by 10 percent last year, and book purchasing as a whole down 4 percent, e-book sales continue to grow, according to Nielsen's comprehensive tracking of book purchases, up 20 percent in the U.K. in 2013, with 80 million books bought by U.K. consumers, to a value of £300 million.
