Task force pushes for new school funding formula
The Nevada Task Force on K-12 Public Education voted to recommend changing the funding formula for Nevada public schools. The recommendations ask the state to revise Nevada's current funding formula and allocate more money to ELL students, special needs students, and students who live in poverty. According to the Nevada Department of Public Education, more than 166,000 students in Clark County are on the Free and Reduced Lunch Program. Around 51,000 students speak English as a second language and 33,000 are classified as special needs students.
