Not only does playing high school sports have a positive impact on physical health, but it can also be beneficial for mental health as well. Adolescents that participated in team sports during high school were found to have less stress and better mental health as young adults than those who did not, according to a study published in the Journal of Adolescent Health. Results of the study showed that high school sport participation offers protection against both depression and high levels of stress.
