New FEMA intergovernmental affairs director introduced
On July 28, Nicole Mlade became FEMA's new intergovernmental affairs director. For the past two and a half years Nicole has served as the director of intergovernmental affairs and global partnerships for the Peace Corps, where she has been the agency's primary liaison with federal agencies, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders. During Hurricane Sandy in Oct. 2012, Nicole was detailed to FEMA's Office of Intergovernmental Affairs to assist IGA disaster operations outreach for the agency. Prior to the Peach Corps, Nicole was the acting director for public engagement for the U.S. Agency for International Development where she worked with private leaders to strengthen the capacity of the agency through consultation efforts and educate the American public about foreign assistance. She has also led strategic engagement efforts for the International Services Department of the American Red Cross, and has worked at the Center for American Progress and the National Democratic Institute. Nicole earned a Master of Public Policy degree from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern University.
