IAEM mourns the passing of Tom Miller, AEM

Tom C. Miller, 63, succumbed to pancreatic cancer on Aug. 10, 2014. He was a member of the New Orleans Dept. of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Auxiliary Team, where he served as communications commander. During his 14 years at the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans, he worked for the Dept. of Emergency Management, where he served as the assistant emergency manager, and for the Facility Maintenance Department, where he worked as an electrician supervisor. Tom stood watch during Hurricane Katrina at the City I-10 pumping station, where he stayed for four weeks, ensuring the drainage operations and logistical support would continue. He was an Associate Emergency Manager (AEM℠) certified through IAEM. Tom is survived by his wife, Pam, and one daughter.
