America's PrepareAthon! gets your community prepared for disasters

from IAEM

America's PrepareAthon! is a nationwide, community-based campaign for action to encourage individuals, organizations and communities to prepare for specific hazards through drills, group discussions, and exercises. Twice a year, on April 30 and September 30, America's PrepareAthon! draws focus on the importance of taking action to prepare for hazards relevant for communities and urges individuals and organizations to take simple, specific actions to increase preparedness for a disaster. America's PrepareAthon! provides hazard-specific guidance on protective actions for wildfire, earthquake, flood, hurricane, tornado, and winter storms, as well as resources and guides to help workplaces, schools, houses of worship, community-based organizations, local leaders, and the whole community practice specific preparedness activities such as drills and exercises to build community preparedness and resilience. All resources can be found at www.ready.gov/prepare in several languages including English, Spanish, and Chinese. IAEM recognizes the importance of preparedness and the critical role it plays in a increasing community resilience. We urge every community to participate in America's PrepareAthon! on September 30 by hosting or supporting an America's PrepareAthon! drill, exercise, discussion, or planning event in your area. Being prepared for disasters is a shared responsibility and it takes the whole community working together to effectively withstand and recover from natural disasters.
