Aviation groups aim to stabilize, reduce carbon emissions
from USA TODAY
International aviation groups pledged to halt the growth in carbon emissions by 2020, as officials met at the United Nations Climate Change Summit. The industry also agreed to reduce carbon emissions to 2005 levels by 2050. Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu, council president of the International Civil Aviation Organization, a branch of the U.N. that recommends policies, said the agreement will meet challenging global targets to limit greenhouse-gas emissions while allowing airlines to support the economy and tourism.
