Balancing school bus needs a tough job
from News Leader
A school bus typically has a lifespan of between 10 and 15 years, depending on how many miles it travels during that time. When you have a school division with more than 200 buses, replacements are a constant, and at almost $85,000 a pop, transporting students is a necessary, but costly expense. Augusta County Transportation Director William Schindler said the trick is to keep buses with higher mileage from traveling the longer routes, to trade them in and out so that one bus doesn't die out quicker than the decade it has.
