Reports: Canadian child care gap a pressing problem
from Toronto Star
After a year of parental leave, there’s a huge gap in early childhood services that has provinces scrambling to “fill the void” for families for three years until kids start school, says a report to be released Wednesday by the Atkinson Centre at the University of Toronto. The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is also issuing an urgent plea to the federal government, stressing that the first six years of life are “the most important developmental phase and our current approach is inadequate,” said Dr. Andrew Padmos, the college’s CEO.
