Targeting sleep-wake protein may prevent Alzheimer's
from Medical News Today
A new study reported in The Journal of Experimental Medicine suggests an approach to preventing Alzheimer's disease may lie in targeting orexin — a small protein that arouses the brain from sleep. Researchers from the School of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis came to this conclusion after they found eliminating orexin in mice made them sleep longer and significantly slowed the production of brain plaques.
