Dallas Police Association optimistic about future with new DA

Now that police officers' troubled eight-year marriage to former District Attorney Craig Watkins is over, the public rift between law and order in Dallas has seemingly been healed — for now. The honeymoon period with new Republican DA Susan Hawk is in full swing. Hawk has delivered on a few key issues for the Dallas Police Association, the largest officer group in the city, including allowing the department's investigators back into grand jury hearings on shootings by police. The group's political arm poured unprecedented time and money into Hawk's campaign to unseat Watkins, a Democrat.
