Former Dallas, Tarrant county deputy sheriff dies at 67

Robert Allen Knowles Jr. developed a national reputation as a jail expert during his more than 40 years as a deputy sheriff in Dallas and Tarrant counties. Officials from across the country toured his jails to observe his practices. He testified as an expert witness in trials involving jail issues. Knowles, executive chief deputy of the Tarrant County Sheriff's Department, died of upper respiratory illnesses at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth. He was 67.
