Study: Alberta short more than 3,300 hospital beds

from Edmonton Journal

After closing half its hospital beds in the mid-1990s, Alberta now needs to open up more than 3,300 beds to relieve the crush in emergency rooms, suggests a new study by a University of Alberta nursing professor. With doctors warning about wait-times in emergency wards this winter, the province is opening 440 more long-term care beds to free up hospital beds for acute-care patients. more
