The Patent Bracket: See which team would win the tournament based on total inventions

from ChicagoInno

A deep run in this month's NCAA tournament could be worth millions of dollars to a school, as March success can spur enrollment, alumni donations, and the opening of public funds. And though it's played out on a much smaller stage, that's nothing compared to what innovators can bring to campus, with a game-changing discovery in a university lab potentially resulting in billions.

That's why this year, ChicagoInno looked at the 68 tourney teams through the lens of invention, determining who wins every matchup by the number of patents a university has filed. The University of Texas, which benefits from being at the center of a large state system, tops the bracket with 2,325 patents. more
