Is this the fix the Florida mental health system needs?
from Palm Beach Post
Miami-Dade County Judge Steven Leifman has proven that millions can be saved when the criminal justice system’s severely mentally ill “frequent fliers” are diverted away from jails and prisons and instead to mental health court, where they can be given medication, therapy and support needed to return them to their communities. The ghastly expensive system in place now exists only to prepare incompetent defendants for trial. It locks them up in forensic hospitals until they’re deemed competent to face a judge.
