State forensics lab records 10,000th DNA databank hit
Recently, Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced that the state's Department of Forensic Science recorded its 10,000th data bank hit in March. The DNA evidence was linked to a 2014 sexual assault case in Northern Virginia that is still under investigation, the governor's office said. “DNA Data Banks have become a 21st century crime-fighting tool, and the Virginia Department of Forensic Science has been at the forefront in using it to keep our citizens safe,” said McAuliffe.
