from The Post and Courier
On the heels of a proposal to raise the tax rate to pay for school operations, the Charleston County School District is now pitching a second rate hike to buy its own fleet of buses. Terri Shannon, executive director of finance for the district, unveiled a proposal for a second property tax increase during a meeting of the school board's Audit and Finance Committee. She said the district wants to raise the tax rate for school debt to generate $6.2 million annually to pay for new buses.
