The connection between cataracts and Alzheimer's disease
from By Denise A. Valenti
Cataracts do more to health than alter visual acuity. A cataract that is blocking all the natural light from entering the eye may be creating dysfunctions to the body's natural biologic rhythms, with potential long-term health consequences. Cataracts are a normal part of aging. The process actually starts early at around age 40 as the clear lens inside the eye begins to lose its elasticity and focusing ability, requiring the use of reading glasses for activities up close.
