South Florida students volunteer aboard floating hospital
from Sun Sentinel
Inside, it looks like a normal hospital. That is, except for the hooks on the ground — there to hold down the equipment when the USNS Comfort, one of the largest floating hospitals in the world, is at sea. That's what Gretell Gomez thought when she spent a day aboard the ship. The 24-year-old Pembroke Pines woman, a first-year medical student, got to scrub with and stand alongside surgeons as they treated patients during a medical aid mission this week along the shore of the island of Dominica.
