Schools reminded of transportation requirement
from Chicago Tribune
While open enrollment policies become more popular in public school corporations across the area, Northwest Indiana Special Education Cooperative Director Jane Winkoff encouraged her nine member districts at a recent Board of Managers Meeting to remember that special education students may require transportation from far distances. Under normal open enrollment procedures a student accepted from outside a district is usually required to provide his own transportation. Schools sometimes offer transportation to out-of-district students, but are not legally required to do so.
