Mold outbreak not expected to tarnish UPMC transplant program's reputation
from Trib Live
Health care giant UPMC resumed organ transplants Sunday, eager to leave behind a mold crisis linked to three deaths and hoping to contain any damage to the program's reputation. “We are grateful for the careful scrutiny, review and for the expertise and support of our colleagues. We have patients being transferred now from southern and central Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Virginia, for life-saving organ transplants to be performed at UPMC,” said Dr. Steven Shapiro, UPMC's chief medical and scientific officer.
