Local pastors on the rise
When large, multisite Grace Church in Florida needed a pastor for its new downtown Fort Myers campus, the Rev. Arlene Jackson got the call. But Jackson is not an ordained elder, the kind of United Methodist pastors who spend three or four years getting a master of divinity degree and make it through provisional member elder status to become "fully connected" with a guaranteed appointment. She’s a full-time licensed local pastor who answered her call to ministry in middle age. Her training has included a two-week licensing school and the part-time Course of Study required of such pastors after they enter.
