New Guidance Issued for Multivessel PCI, Thrombectomy in Heart Attack Patients
New guidance on the use of coronary interventions in patients with heart attacks due to completely blocked arteries was issued Oct. 21 in a
from SCAI, the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association, in collaboration with the American College of Emergency Physicians.
The new recommendation states that "PCI of a noninfarct artery may be considered in selected patients with STEMI and multivessel disease who are hemodynamically stable, either at the time of primary PCI or as a planned staged procedure," and designates this as a Class IIb recommendation.
