What actually is active learning?

No student wants to sit through a 50-minute lecture of a PowerPoint presentation. Many large-classroom lectures do not have much choice, though. For Regena Scott, professor in the department of technology, leadership and innovation, her classes are taught from a non-traditional classroom learning perspective, through a style called active learning. Active learning is not for every professor or course. Scott, however, sees the benefit of using it in her courses, one of them being supply chain management. "I believe it is important to give students the opportunity to participate in the learning process," said Scott. "I think active learning encourages students to think creatively and to become problem solvers, both skills that they will need when they enter the workforce." more
