New Solvent for Gel Spinning of Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene Fibers

The gel spinning process of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene for the production of high-strength and high-modulus fibers has been the subject of extensive research for several years. Compared with the results of melt spinning, the density of chain entanglements is lower when a gel is formed from a solution. This promotes greater drawability in the hot drawing stages of the spinning process and allows high-strength fibers to be obtained.
