Researchers discover unique muscle fibres linked to sleep apnea and snoring

Aiming to investigate and better understand the upper airways muscle function in disorders, such as obstructive sleep apnea, dysphagia and speech disorders, Swedish researchers have stumbled upon a unique subgroup of muscle fibers in the soft palate of the mouth. Interestingly, the newly discovered fibers appeared to be present in greater numbers among snorers and sleep apnea patients.
