Parts stripped from U.S. presidential helicopters have played a critical role in keeping the Canadian military's search-and-rescue chopper fleet flying, according to documents obtained by the
, but the air force is still undecided on whether the former American aircraft will be joining its ranks. Canada purchased the nine new VH-71 presidential helicopters and more than 800,000 spare parts in 2012 after U.S. President Barack Obama shut down the multi-billion dollar program and decided that existing aircraft were good enough for his needs.
