The ways in which companies and individuals collect and share information have changed dramatically during the past 30 years. In 1986, some secretaries were still typing letters for their bosses on typewriters. Very few people were using email. There was no YouTube, Google or Twitter. The Internet, faster microprocessors and cheaper computing power have made digital information part of the very fabric of most people's lives.
