Small classes: Do they really help kids learn?

It seems to make perfect sense: Put fewer students in a classroom and get better behavior, more individualized attention and more actual learning time. The logical appeal of small class sizes has prompted dozens of states to set K-12 class-size limits. Many parents hunt for schools with small class sizes, and real estate websites often tout the number of students per teacher in a nearby school as a selling point.
