Bashas' Supermarkets overhauls front end to boost sales
from Progressive Grocer
Arizona-based Bashas' Supermarkets began overhauling its front end three years ago, and through analyses of other retailers, the company developed a plan that included devoting less space to magazines, adding peg bags of cookies, crackers, nuts and other snacks and making checkstands shorter so customers can easily see which aisles are open and cashiers can easily reach out to customers in lines so they don't have to wait, Bashas' Category Manager Dave Vehon said. "Since the front end revision, we have realized incremental sales and profits, not to mention monies gained through space placement," he said.
