Jobless claims average down 8,000 total claims at three-month low

The U.S. four-week moving average of initial claims for unemployment insurance was 273,250 last week, down 8,000 from the previous week’s unrevised average, according to seasonally adjusted numbers released today by the U.S. Department of Labor. The four-week moving average decreases the volatility of the weekly numbers. Total initial claims for unemployment insurance for the week ended Feb. 13 were 262,000, down 7,000 from the previous week’s unrevised level.
