County to apply for grant for more GPS monitors
from Corpus Christi Caller-Times
Thirty-seven people have GPS monitors strapped to their ankles after Nueces County received a state grant last year aimed at protecting women against domestic violence. So far, $20,000 has been used of the $50,000 grant from the Criminal Justice Division of the governor's office awarded to the county in late October. The grant was for the purchase of GPS monitors to be assigned to defendants who face violent charges and are placed on pretrial bond conditions while they await their court date. But that grant won't last for ever, said District Attorney Mark Skurka.
