Jail overcrowding committee explores options
from Claremore Daily Progress
A 13-member committee formed to address jail overcrowding held its first meeting to explore short- and long-term options. Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton said he has watched the use of force go up in the jail as the jail population has increased. The more compressed the jail gets, the more dangerous it gets, he said. Judge Sheila Condren brought up the idea of using pretrial release and bail reform programs, which would allow qualified, nonviolent inmates to enter an agreement shortening their jail stay.
